SPIRALE

A bird’s nest, the jawbone of some mysterious and unidentifiable beast or maybe an insanely large seed pod from an over-cup acorn tree. These were Treasures to me. They fueled my imagination and curiosity for the Natural world. I was particularly fascinated when I found a piece of petrified wood, chunk of quartz or flint rocks that sparked when knocked together. I would think to myself, “these things come out of the ground? My child-mind was officially blown!

Who would have thought that all these years later I would once again be wandering around looking for rocks? These days the Treasures come from all corners of the world and come in unimaginable shapes and colors—magical time capsules of millions, if not billions of years of history. My degree in Architecture from the University of Texas and decades of furniture, architectural and interior design lead me to this juncture. I sold my furniture and lighting design and manufacturing business in 2001 and thought to myself, “what now?” The answer came in 2003 and Spirale was born. Grown-ups finding themselves at a career juncture are often told, “Think about what you loved to do as a child.” So I did! And I got to combine that love with my years of training in my various fields of design.

Here’s where the magic happens: taking organic, wildly colored and textured elements from Nature and supporting them with the structure and forms of Architecture. I continue to be amazed when the Natural and Man-made world are combined and the result is far greater than the sum of its parts. I hope you share my enthusiasm for this combination. And perhaps you too can remember the things you loved as a child. > View Manufacture
